Generation to generation

Photography, since its invention, has played an important role in aiding the constructs of family images and memories, while evoking a sense of belonging for the members towards their families.

In this collection, I and my family are re-enacting the black and white photographs my great uncle captured around the 1950s. He portrayed our family as they were - family of the soil. He is my biggest inspiration and he always pushed me to pursue my dream and be creative as much as I could.

Recreating these pictures allowed me and my family to feel connected with our elder generation, more than we are now, almost as if reliving the moments they lived. I decided to use the same locations in our family countryside house to make these moments alive and feel them our ones. In so doing helped us also understand where we are from and made us more self-conscious about who we truly are.
